Sometimes the Lord calls us to do work that is bigger than ourselves so that we learn to trust in Him completely. Often though, when I see the job He has for me, rather than trusting Him, I get discouraged or intimidated or scared. Today, when I was feeling scared, He sent me some songs to remind me to trust Him. I thought I'd share them with you...
A Mighty Fortress is Our God
M. Luther
A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper He amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right man on our side,
the man of God's own choosing.
dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabbaoth, His name,
from age to age the same,
and He must win the battle.
And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
His Truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.
It Is Well
H. Spafford
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
My sin - oh, the joy of this glorious thought -
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
even so, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul,
it is well, it is well with my soul.
Another thing that helped me today...
"Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's acting in spite of fear."
(A thought from a good friend of mine)
That third verse of A Mighty Fortress-- I can never get enough of it. Every line is gold...
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you in person at GYC. :) Thanks for working for Jesus way down there...
I know, right? That verse blew me away today, spoke straight to my heart like never before. Nice to meet you too, btw. Working for Jesus is the only way to live, as I'm sure you know :)
ReplyDeleteI repeat Psalm 91 and Psalm 56:3 when I am afraid. God's word is like a lifeline to cling to in the storms of life. Your family and friends are praying for you Katie. XOXO
